In my opinion Rhetoric is just another method of communication with alternative views and methods to express such views. The word Rhetoric can be a great term used for distinctively stating certain opinions directly, rather than beating around the bush. I was unaware how far back this term has been used in various cultures. According to Wikipedia, “Rhetoric is the art of using language to communicate effectively. It involves three audience appeals: logos, pathos, and ethos, as well as the five canons of rhetoric: invention or discovery, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery. Along with grammar and logic or dialectic, rhetoric is one of the three ancient arts of discourse.” This is an explanation of the true in depth meaning of the word Rhetoric. Essentially the word rhetoric can be a visual example of a certain object. When you think of a certain word, many objects or things pop into your head to help grasp the meaning of a word, rhetoric is a meaning behind this system. An example of this meaning would be, “their disdain for anything fake or artificial.” (Foss et. al, 3) This is a good quote regarding the whole Christmas tree relationship to culture and the meaning behind its symbolism.

When I first thought of something that would relate to this kind of symbolism and relationship, I thought of the digital world and certain brand names. If one would go in depth about a certain word like, Iphone, XBOX, and IPAD, the relationship behind the brand has so many more mental connections than just a brand name. I think of all aspects of the product like Iphone when I relate imagery to place connections rhetorically.  I think of the look, design, color, and capabilities. XBOX has all of these unique relationships I tie to the product, like XBOX LIVE and how I relate to communicating with my friends, playing games, the new ones that come out or simply jus the design. The mobile and gaming culture is a good example to show the in depth meaning of just a word. The symbolism and rhetoric connections all play a unique role in ones understanding.
